Leon Agustus Ewell, Sr.

Leon Agustus Ewell, Sr. of Plano, Texas passed away November 23, 2022 at the age of 87.  He was born on September 6, 1935 to William Tom Ewell and Odessa Blanche Ewell in Norfolk, Virginia where he grew up.  Leon was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk and a baritone player of their high school band.  Following graduation, he joined the United States Army.  Leon served his country proudly for six years before joining the Army National Guard continuing to serve for an additional 19 years.  He met his wife, Martha in Shreveport, Louisiana.  They’ve been inseparable for the past 54 years.  Leon and Martha started their family with the birth of son, Leon, Jr. in 1972 followed by Richard in 1974.  He was a great father; supporting his sons with every decision whether he agreed or not.  Leon loved and supported them fully.  He was a hard worker his entire life only retiring at age 70 from Sherwin Williams.  Leon still wanting to stay busy immediately went to work for Carroll Chemical Company for another six years.  He has a trophy for every year worked affirming his accomplishments.  When he wasn’t working or with his family, Leon enjoyed watching hockey and football.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  His family and friends will sincerely miss their “Ole Grump” and his great sense of humor.

Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Elaine Ewell of Plano, Texas; sons, Leon Agustus Ewell, Jr. and wife, Allison of Denton, Texas; and Richard Paul Ewell and wife, Emaiza of Prosper, Texas; granddaughters, Antares Ewell, Skye Ewell, Alexis Powell, Annabelle Powell, grandson, Noah Powell, all of Denton, Texas; granddaughter, Adison Ewell of Prosper, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; brother, William T. Ewell, Jr.; and sister, Helen E. Wynn.

A memorial service will be held at Hope Community Church, 3405 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023 at a later date.
