LaVerne Plair

LaVerne Plair of Detroit, Michigan passed away January 2, 2021 at the age of 102.  She was born on April 17, 1918 to Joseph Halbert McGaugh and Effie Lee (Arvin) McGaugh in Omaha, Nebraska. LaVerne married the late Bernist Plair, Sr. on August 2, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio. She became a nursing student in 1959 then worked as a nurse for the city of Detroit until she retired in 1981. LaVerne enjoyed square dancing, traveling, playing cards and loved to take a drive to see the beauty of the fall colors.

She is survived by her children, Juanita Henry of Detroit, Michigan, Sandra Plair Fairnot and husband, Ronald of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, Bernist Plair, II of Beauford, South Carolina, Cynthia Plair of Frisco, Texas and Sylvia Peters and husband, Larry of Wesley Chapel, Florida; daughter-in-law, Pat Plair of Southfield, Michigan; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other loving family members, and friends.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Bernist Plair, Sr., daughter, Linda Kye; grandson, Anthony Kye; brothers, Walter McGaugh, Milton McGaugh, Lewis McGaugh, John McGaugh, Donald McGaugh, and Gerald McGaugh; and sisters, Sadie McGaugh and Juanita Reese.

In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the memorial service.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.  The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on LaVerne’s obituary page by clicking on the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/laverne-plair. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.

However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Laerne and show their support to her family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.
