LaVerne Sterrett, age 82, of Allen, Texas, passed away August 31, 2016. LaVerne was born November 30, 1933, in Boise, Idaho, to John Alfred and Ellen LaVerne (Olson) Carver. She married Roy Carroll Buckmaster on July 25, 1952. He preceded her in death. LaVerne later married Gary A. Sterrett on January 9, 2010 in Newport Lincoln, Oregon. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served full time missions including, the genealogical library in Salt Lake City, Utah, The Family History Centre in Newport, Oregon, and the LDS Cannery in Dallas, Texas.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, Gary A. Sterrett of Allen, Texas; children John Gilbert (Linda) Buckmaster of Portland, Oregon, Ellen LaVerne (Robert) Adrian of West Lynn, Oregon, Dennis DeWitt (Laura) Buckmaster of Newport, Oregon, Mark Carver (Robin) Buckmaster of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Joseph Lance Buckmaster of Portland, Oregon, and Elizabeth Anne (David) Cronk of Eagle Creek, Oregon; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Aida Buckmaster.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Roy Carroll Buckmaster.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Allen, Texas. Interment will be private at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario, Oregon.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Perpetual Education Fund or Doernbecher Children's Hospital, two of Laverne's special interests.
