IN LOVING MEMORY

Laurel Elaine Brewington

Feb 08 2001 - Dec 25 2022

Our Beloved Laurel Elaine Brewington passed away on December 25, 2022, at her mother’s home in McKinney, Texas. She was 21.

Laurel was born in Hackensack New Jersey on Feb 8, 2001, to Alfred Brewington and Heather-Dawn Simone Henry. Shortly after 09/11, Laurel’s father and mother with the support of Aunt Christine and other family members decided to relocate her daughters to a more family orientated and quaint environment, in which they settled in Rockford IL. It was in this community; Laurel began her journey not only for her elder sister Danielle Christina Waul but for her younger sister Simone Evelina Brewington. Spear headed by both parents, Alfred Brewington (father) and Heather Henry (mother); their earliest observations of this young woman, were that she is a natural leader, energetic, spontaneous, and vibrant. Some may even say she was a modern day, “Robin Hood.” More importantly Laurel was respectful, even in times she was quite vocal about her opinions, one thing is for certain, “she commanded respect and gave respect to every human being.”

In 2010 mom, Heather made another vital decision to relocate her three children to Richardson, Texas. Where Laurel and her sisters matriculated at Plano Independent School District, but more importantly was supported by a spiritual community at One Community Church. As Laurel continued to grow, spiritually (Volunteered at Children’s Church), academically (Violinist at Otto Middle School) and athletically (Girls’ Basketball, Step Team and AVID- “Advancement via Individual Determination program) at William’s High School, one thing was for certain, this child was ‘God’s gift to us!’ I recalled in 2015, Laurel went on a trip to Grambling State University with her “Aunt” (Grambling Alumni), being introduced to Coach Pontian which was the Head Basketball Coach. Coach offered Laurel a scholarship even though she hadn’t finished high school. It wasn’t because of her beauty (which everyone knew was strikingly elegant, talent, but because she was “coachable, respectful, and a team player.” Even though “all eyes were upon her,” when Laurel shined, everyone glowed because she was a team player, loved people from all walks of life, and ensured everyone was a winner without taking credit for herself.

She may have been referred to as the modern-day Robin Hood, but she nicknamed herself “Bonnie”: she perceived this to represent the highest level of loyalty she should have to those she cared about the most.” Bonnie, continued to touch lives as she moved through her teenage years as she believed her soul purpose in life was to support the less fortunate, heal the broken hearted and encourage her friends and family in a positive way. This couldn’t be achieved haven’t it not been for the love of God and Laurel being his faithful servant. Bonnie’s Mantra was the “Serenity Prayer” which she had tattooed on her right arm along with the names of her mother and youngest sister. She reminded her mother minutes before she slipped away into everlasting sleep, “Mom I praise GOD Every day! Every day I Praise GOD!”

Laurel Elaine Brewington was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, and best friend too many. She is survived by Alfred Brewington (Father), Heather Henry (Mother) & Christine Henry (Aunt), sisters: Danielle Waul, Simone Brewington, and Corliss Pargo, brothers: Alfred Brewington III and Anthony Brewington. Grandparents: Daycee Brewington and Athol Henry and a host of other loving family (Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews) and friends.

Laurel is preceded in death by her Grandfather Alfred Brewington Sr., Grandmother Joyce Elaine Henry, and Cousin Isaac White.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday January 13, 2023.  The service will be live streamed at the following link: Laurel's Funeral Service.  Prior to the commencement of the service, we welcome you to an hour of viewing.

A closing note from Mother Heather Henry to Laurel:

I wished you had stayed awake and chatted longer, because now I can no longer hear the excitement in your voice while you speak. I can’t breathe life back into you, but the memories you created will carry on forever. There’s no doubt that heaven had laid down, the “pink carpet” to welcome you home, everyone you have touched will continue to carry on your work. Goodbye my child, goodbye: sister, niece, cousin, friends and beyond. I love you! I miss you!

“Therefore, stop worrying about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthews 6:34
