Laura Lea Sperry of Plano, Texas passed away January 23, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born on May 22, 1930 as the only child to Luther Lee Love and Margaret Ruth (Barnett) Love in Kansas City, Missouri. Laura married the love of her life, the late Jean Ronald Sperry on October 6, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri and they enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage before his passing in November of 2020. They lived in both Kansas City and Dallas. Family was most important to Laura and Jean, followed by the love of their country, always grateful for the opportunities they were given. Laura stood by Jean’s side as they poured their lives into the success and growth of Marion Laboratories, fostering a family atmosphere within the company. Hospitality was her spiritual gift. She always put other’s needs ahead of her own and her door was always open, treating others with kindness and generosity. Laura loved to entertain; her hospitality had a profound effect on all. Laura was passionate about philanthropy, the KC Royals, and getting the family together for fun and fellowship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
Laura is survived by her daughters, Carol Komsthoeft and husband, Peter of Olathe, Kansas, Jeanine Hammond and husband, Steve of Windermere, Florida, and Kathy Permenter of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Harris and husband, Drew, Chris Komsthoeft and wife, Beth, Katie Stock and husband, Tyler, Tori Landavazo and husband, Adam, Alex Komsthoeft, Samantha Castillo and husband, Davis, Laura Oleksy, Amanda Johnson and husband, Brad, Sara Oleksy, Kyle Hammond and wife, Ansley, Taylor Hammond and wife, Caitlin, Travis Hammond and wife, Ali, Kevin Hammond, Alec Permenter, and Ryan Permenter; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Jean R. Sperry; daughter, Janet Oleksy; son, Andy Sperry; son-in-law, Stephen Oleksy, II; and parents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive family and friends during a visitation on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Laura will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jean and son, Andy, at Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery, 806 SE 3rd Street, Lee’s Summit, Missouri at 2:30 p.m., January 28, 2022.
