Laura Etta Love

Laura Etta Love, age 96, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away, September 18, 2018. She was born August 17, 1922, in Crowsville, Arkansas, to Pearl Young and Maeliza Risper. Laura married Sidney L. Love on February 15, 1942, in Turrell, Arkansas. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1945. She joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in 1949 and later became a member of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Laura worked in a clothing factory, as a caregiver in a nursing home, and as a stay at home mom. She was known for providing counseling to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who came into her life. Laura loved to cook and liked a neat and clutter free house. She enjoyed reading her Bible and believed that if you have faith and love in your heart, then God will take care of the rest. Without love, you have nothing.

She is survived by daughters, Etta M. Ray of Frisco, TX and Anita Love of Euclid, OH; sons, Freddie Love, Sr. of Atlanta, GA, Lonzo Love of Atlanta, GA, and LaBron Love of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren, Mariah, Michael, LaBron, LaBriant, DaeShawn, Diamond, Kimberley, Kristie, Kyle, Lakisha, LaToyia, Freddie Jr, Fredrick, Cy, Charisse, Alicia, Charneka, Lonzo Jr, Charlonda, Marshall Jr, and Brian; twenty-seven great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Richmond and husband William, Bertha Chisolm, Bernice Johnson, Linda Faye McClaster; brothers, Charlie McClaster and wife Tonia, David McClaster and wife Christen, Roy Lee McClaster, Tommy Lee McClaster, Matthew McClaster, Lonnie McClaster and wife Tanisha; beloved “daughters” Odesta and Bernice; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather (Mack McClaster); husband; sons Marshall Love, Sr. and Sidney Love, Jr.; “sister” Clara Stokes; brothers, Andrew Lee McClaster, Willie Lee McClaster, Manuel McClaster, Gus McClaster, Mack McClaster Jr., Frank McClaster, Elmer Shoots, and Charles Shoots.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Detroit, Michigan.  The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan.
