Larry Gene House of Denton, Texas passed away June 22, 2021 at the age of 70. He was born on January 13, 1951 to James William House and Ruth Ann (Gafford) House.
Larry was the eldest of his siblings, and he grew up with his parents, brother, and sisters in Phoenix, Arizona before moving to Texas. Larry was an easy-going man and enjoyed the simple things in life, and he knew Texas was where he wanted to be the moment he got there. That move started a domino effect that changed the trajectory of his life forever.
Larry was a man of many, many talents — most notably for painting. Larry worked for Adams and Henderson Painting Company in Dallas, Texas for decades where he painted some of the most expensive and lavish homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. From intricate details to large-scale projects, Larry held himself to the highest standard for each job he worked on. His favorite story to tell was when he was on a ladder in Troy Aikman’s house and looked down to Mr. Aikman watching him work. As an avid Cowboys-fan, Larry couldn’t help but be a bit star struck. Yet that was just one of the many stories he had about the many beautiful places he painted.
And just as he wanted to succeed in his professional life, he continually worked to thrive in his personal life, as well. And that started with his wife, Sharon. Larry once told his granddaughter that when he saw Sharon for the very first time, “her smile lit up a room” like no smile he had ever seen before. Larry was a devoted husband to Sharon for 40 years. They blended their loving families together and became a family of five. When his children had children of their own, he was upgraded to an even more special title for him — Pepaw.
If you asked Larry what his ideal day would consist of, his immediate answer would be spending time with his family. Some of his most meaningful memories consisted of sitting around the pool at his daughter’s house, watching his grandchildren open their Christmas Eve pajamas, meeting his great-granddaughter Maddi for the first time, having lunch dates with his grandchildren, and monthly birthday gatherings. Larry was always the life of the party — especially if he brought his homemade cookies. Nobody could resist those delicacies.
Anyone who knew Larry knew him as one of the most selfless, caring, and considerate people on the planet. He spent his years taking care of Sharon, making meals for his family, supporting his grandchildren, supporting the Dallas Cowboys (most years, that is), and literally giving people the shirt off his back. Larry was a once-in-a-lifetime type of man, and anyone who crossed his path was lucky to have known the amazing man that he is and was.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon House of Denton, Texas; son, David House and wife, Rachel of Pasadena, Texas; daughters, Michelle Boyd and husband, Jeff of Plano, Texas and Tandee Bywater of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Jae Plotke and wife, Des; Kayleigh Hansen and husband, Kameren; Cody Mihay and wife, Shelbi; Courtney Ostrander and husband, Cory; Aubri Mihay and husband, Slade Moore; Alyssa Boyd, Dylan House and Alex Boyd; great-granddaughter, Maddi Mihay; sisters, Diana Kemp and husband, Homer; Debbie Brown and husband, Allen; and Brenda Bell and husband, Roger; sister-in-law, Lana House and many other family and friends that loved him dearly.
