Larry Wayne Kerns of Oak Point, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on October 8, 1946, in Hannibal, Missouri, to Leamon F. Kerns and Rosellen Ann (Dugan) Kerns.
Larry grew up in O’Fallon, Missouri, where he graduated from Fort Zumwalt High School in 1965. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. His time in the Navy helped shape a life defined by service, curiosity, and dedication. During and after his military service, Larry pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas.
On December 23, 1967, Larry married the love of his life, Linda Lea Taylor. Together, they shared decades of unwavering partnership, laughter, and love.
Larry spent his professional career as an engineer in the defense industry, working for Rockwell Collins. He was deeply respected by colleagues for his skill, work ethic, and quiet ingenuity.
Outside of work, Larry had a lifelong passion for learning and creating. He found joy in woodworking, experimenting with electronics, and computer programming, always eager to explore new technologies and build with his hands. His hobbies reflected his curious mind and the thoughtful precision with which he approached all things.
He was survived by his son, Tim Kerns and wife, Jung Hwang of Houston, Texas; son, Bryan Kerns and wife, Brandi of Flower Mound, Texas; granddaughter, Catherine Kerns; granddaughter, Cameron Kerns; grandson, Ivan Kerns; sister, Judith Kerns of Caddo Mills, Texas; brother, Michael Kerns of Plano, Texas, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon and Rosellen Kerns; wife, Linda Lea Kerns; sister, Vicky Kerns; brother, Steven Kerns; and sister, Beverly Kerns.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
