Larry Joe Threadgill was born May 24, 1938 in Cleburne, Texas to Odie Ray Threadgill and Alpha Rachel Keller Threadgill. He passed away at his home surrounded by family on September 25, 2022 at the age of 84.
Larry was a graduate of Glen Rose High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Sam Houston State University. While at Sam Houston he met the love of his life Barbara. He married Barbara Sue Merrell on June 23, 1962 in Dawson, Texas. During college, Larry served his nation in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 to 1962.
Larry was a life long educator. He began his teaching career in Hillsboro ISD, and then went to Whitney ISD as the high school principal. Next, he was a school superintendent in Kopperel ISD. His last move was to Whitewright ISD where he retired after 16 years as the school superintendent. He loved visiting kids on their birthdays and giving them birthday pencils. He touched and impacted many lives during his time in education. He and his wife remained in Whitewright after his retirement. Larry then went on to work as a salesman for various companies up until the last year of his life.
Larry and Barbara enjoyed traveling and went on many cruises throughout the world after his retirement from education. They also took many road trips watching their grandchildren playing various sports and performing in various activities. They were great supporters, and he loved his grandchildren dearly.
Larry was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Whitewright. He served as a deacon for many years and served on many other church committees throughout the 45 years he lived in Whitewright. Larry was a Christian and loved the Lord. He shared his faith and testimony with many.
Larry is survived by his wife Barbara Threadgill of Whitewright; son, Greg Threadgill and his wife Lisa of Whitewright; daughter, Gwenean Morton and husband Dan of Waxahachie; son, Grant Threadgill of Dallas; grandchildren, Ashton Threadgill, Bryant Threadgill and wife Karissa, Luke, Rylie and her fiance Maxwell Priebe, Abbie and Macie Morton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jimmy Ray Threadgill.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Pastor Dave Bradley will officiate.
