IN LOVING MEMORY

Larry Martin

Jan 16 1945 - Oct 11 2023

Larry Edmond Martin passed away on October 11, 2023 in McKinney, Texas.  He was born January 6, 1945 in Blue Ridge, Texas to Clifford (Dick) Martin and Geneva Upchurch Martin.

Larry grew up in Blue Ridge, Texas on a dairy farm.  He learned the meaning of hard work at an early age because milking cows wasn’t an easy job.  Larry was a 1964 graduate of Blue Ridge High School. On August 6, 1965 in Melissa, Texas, he married the love of his life, the late Jan Whitworth Martin, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her passing in 2018.  Soon after their union, in December of 1965, Larry was drafted by the United States Army and went on to serve his proudly country until 1967.

After the service, Larry was hired on by Texas Power & Light (now known as Oncor).  He worked his entire career with the company at the Collin Plant in Frisco, Texas as a Maintenance Mechanic.  Larry retired in 1995 and then went to work for Princeton Independent School District in their Maintenance department until he retired from there as well.

He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many activities.  Larry spent many nights watching them play volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball and football. He also loved his church.  Larry was a devoted member of Altoga Baptist Church till he was unable to attend. He wore many hats over the years, from being a Deacon, Music Minister and Sunday School Director.

Larry is survived by his son, Brian Martin of Blue Ridge; daughters, Tammy Crosswhite of Blue Ridge and Tracy Nichols of Port Aransas; grandchildren, Linley Jones, Molly Martin, Tessa Gray, Torey Stockman, Logan Crawford and Andrew White; seven great-grandsons; sisters, Joyce Rule (Melvin); Kathy Weems and Paula Jackson (James); brother-in-law, Gary Whitworth (Debbie); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Cariad at Northbrook for the care that was extended to Larry during his stay there and also the hospice staff at Reliant at Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Larry’s obituary page by clicking on the following link:   https://celebrationoflife.tv/.  After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.  Following the service, a procession will make its way to Melissa Cemetery for a committal service. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
