Larry Emil Thorn, 73, while surrounded by much love, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 6, 2024. He gave us a beautiful life and beautiful memories.
Larry was born on April 17, 1951 to Wilburn and Dana Thorn in Dallas, Texas.
After graduating from high school, he attended community college and later became a licensed electrician, working for Texas Power and Light, W. R. Cox Electric, and Frymire Services until his retirement in 2016. Larry met his wife in high school and they were married in 1971.
To know Larry is to know that he was friendly, humble, hard-working and had a servant’s heart. He was frequently found lending a hand to friends, family and neighbors and never met a stranger. His greatest joy in life was his family and he worked hard to provide for them and spend time with them.
Larry also loved fishing, hunting, running, and being outdoors. He loved spending his weekends on his bass boat or sitting in the deer stand with his family or coworkers. He especially loved opportunities to travel to other states and countries where outdoor activities, wildlife, nature and stunning views of God's creation were abundant. He loved to laugh and was a practical joker. He loved babies and was often deemed the baby whisperer. He always brought calm to chaos. He was a giver and found joy in helping.
His final years were challenging after an early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2017, but his joyful smile and calm presence were never lost. His fight, tenacity, and fun-loving spirit were evident even in his final months.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Melvin Thorn.
Larry is survived by his cherished wife, Nancy Thorn. They were active members of Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughters: Kelly Scott and husband Korey; Kristin Mauritzen and husband Cory. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Hunter and Ryder Scott; Levi and Addilyn (Addi) Mauritzen. He was the greatest family man who loved us all so dearly.
He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Arie, and two brothers, Bill Thorn and Jerry Thorn.
His love, life and laugh will be forever etched in our hearts. He gave a lot of love, but he leaves with more than he gave.
Details on Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
“We remember their love when they can no longer remember.”
