Kurt David Horn

Nov 17 1962 - Aug 13 2019

On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Kurt David Horn, devoted husband, father, son and brother passed away unexpectedly at the age of 56. Born November 17, 1962, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Kurt was the youngest son of Tom and Junia M. Horn. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1986, serving on the USS Forestall and in Diego Garcia as an Air Traffic controller. Kurt attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics, Air Traffic Control, Airport Management. He was the Assistant Airport Manager at Addison Airport from 1991 to 2000. After leaving Addison Airport, Kurt began a new and very successful career in sales at Birch Telecom. Two years later, he started his own company, The Horn Group. Kurt was the owner and founder of Fleet Lending Solutions, a commercial finance company with a small group of employees. He also served as President of the Education Community for the American Association of Commercial Finance Brokers. Kurt met his wife, Kim on a blind date when he was working at Addison Airport. They were married in 1996 and have two children, Kendall David, a Junior at Pepperdine University, and Olivia Renee, a Freshman at Auburn University. They were his pride and joy. Kurt loved coaching Kendall’s hockey teams when he was younger, as Kendall grew older, he was a fan. As late as this summer, Kurt enjoyed playing men’s league hockey with Kendall. He was always the loudest parent at Olivia’s dance recitals, competitions, and Spring Shows. Even when Olivia didn’t have a performance, Kurt would turn on some music and they’d dance in the living room. He loved spending time with his family, one of his favorite destinations was Seaside Florida. Kurt loved his work trips to Arkansas, where he got to stay with Kim’s mom, Tennie, and enjoy her great cooking and target shooting. Kurt was funny, articulate, stylish, and an avid hockey fan. He loved Jesus, riding motorcycles, playing with his dog and target shooting.  Kurt was an entrepreneur who was passionate about his work, his employees, and taking care of his customers. He was the picture-perfect gentleman, opening the door for ladies, helping friends and family in need, and bringing a smile to strangers’ faces with his warmth and kindness. Whether it was the gun attendant at Walmart, his fellow associates at his office suites, or the mechanic at the local repair shop, he took the time to get to know them personally.  Every day, Kurt impacted others; through small deeds, or talking to them about Jesus.  He was a member of Waterview Church of Christ.
