Kerry Sandvig, age 38, of Allen, Texas, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Kerry was born in January 1984 in McAllen, Texas, to the late Larry and Janie (Fosmire) Sandvig. She was a 2002 graduate of McAllen High School. After a few years in McAllen, Kerry moved to the Dallas area, residing in McKinney and Allen. Kerry honed her barista skills as a member of the café staff at Borders Bookstore and Market Street in Allen prior to joining the team at Starbucks. Through her work, Kerry found friendship and laughter; with a kind word and a smile she often succeeded in turning her customers into friends as well. She knew how to make ordinary situations hilarious. She enjoyed travelling with her family to the beach, Disney World, and cruising, always indulging in a quest for new selfies while taking on the self-appointed role of family photographer and videographer. Next to her mother, Kerry’s biggest love was cats; she enjoyed snuggling with her furry friends and was always ready for the next humorous cat meme or YouTube video. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, aunt, and cousin to her family members.
She is survived by her sister, Jessica Widmer and husband, Matthew; nieces and nephew, Avery, Ethan, Harper, and Hannah; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her feline friends, Sparky and Mouse. Kerry was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
The family would like to thank their extended family, friends, The Heights Church, and staff at UT Southwestern Medical Center for their kindness and loving support during this difficult time.
A celebration of life service has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022, at The Heights Church in Richardson, Texas.
Shortly before her passing, Kerry met another patient, Sue, in the ER who is working towards a liver transplant. After talking with Sue, Kerry remembered that she previously worked with Sue’s daughter-in-law at Market Street; our family does not believe this was just a coincidence, but rather God’s divine timing. While Kerry may not have lived long enough to get her transplant, there is an opportunity for Sue to get hers. We would like to request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Sue’s GoFundMe account to assist with insurance expenses:
