Kenneth Andrew Ray, age 77, of Frisco, Texas, passed away March 17, 2018. Kenneth was born January 18, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Arthur and Precious (Cartwright) Ray. He proudly served in the United States Army reaching the rank of Corporal. Kenneth married Etta Mae Love on July 10, 1965, in Detroit. He served for 32 years with the Detroit Police Department and retired as a Sergeant. Kenneth loved his family and was known as a great encourager, often providing advice and guidance to many friends and family members. He was a competitive swimmer during high school and later he obtained a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Kenneth enjoyed photography as a hobby, was good at building things, and was a marathon runner, having completed three marathons.
He is survived by his wife, Etta M. Ray of Frisco, Texas; daughters, Kimberley Reid and husband, Marlon of Frisco and Kristie Harrison and husband, Dempsey of Redford, Michigan; son, Kyle Ray and wife, Petra of Kentwood, Michigan; grandchildren, Cerenna Harrison, Malik Ray, Matthew Ray, and Brandon Reid; brother, James Starks and wife, Peggy of Detroit, Michigan; and sisters, Erma Martin of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Nadine Carpenter of Detroit, Michigan and Loretta Ray of Southfield, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Arthur Ray, and sister, Elizabeth Starks.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, March 23, 2018, at Grace Outreach Chapel, 5000 W. Parker Road, Plano, Texas, 75093. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
