Kendall James Hutton passed away on October 4, 2023, in McKinney, Texas at the age of 79. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to James Kendall Hutton and Blanche (McNally) Hutton on September 21, 1944.
Kendall was raised in San Antonio and graduated from Highlands High School. After high school, he attended Texas A & I in Kingsville before working for the next four years as a railroad detective for Southern Pacific Railroad. Kendall attended the Electronic Computer Program Institute in 1967, which led him to his long-term career in the computer services and information processing industry. He worked as an operations manager and supervisor for a couple of smaller companies, progressing to the level of a data center manager where he was responsible for data processing for 32 banks, several oil companies and a large publishing company. In 1974, Kendall went to work for Enron (previously Houston Natural Gas) as a manager of computer services and computer utility projects. He received Volunteer of the Year at Enron in 1988.
It was in Houston that Kendall met Norma Lee, through a mutual friend, Frances Cecil. They married on October 21, 1978. While in Houston, Kendall was very active in the community. He volunteered and served on the board for several years with the Houston Downtown YMCA, where he received Volunteer of the Year in 1989, was a lifetime member of the Houston Chamber of Commerce, including serving as Ambassadors Chairman and Optimist Club President, and a part of the Golden Key Club. He was Water Board President, HISD Tutor and Mentor, served on the Enron Credit Union Board and was March of Dimes Corporate TeamWalk Chairman.
After leaving Enron in 1988, Kendall went to work for EDS in Houston and moved to the Plano EDS offices in 1994, working until his retirement from EDS in 1999. Kendall and Norma remained in the North Texas area ever since. After his early retirement from EDS, boredom led Kendall to volunteer at Plano Senior Citizens Center for a few years, as well as part-time work for Capital One Auto Finance, Huffines Chevrolet, and finally retiring from part-time work with Hillwood after six years.
During his retirement, Kendall and Norma found their true love…riding Harleys! They bought their first Harley Davidson motorcycle in 1994. Their love for riding and the Harley community led them through every state in the US, as well as flying over to Europe and traveling through the continent by motorcycle. Kendall and Norma loved every mile they spent together.
Kendall never met a stranger. He was always loved and well-respected by those who met him. Kendall was known as “the Mayor” of Somerset community in Twin Creeks, arranging the “First Friday Happy Hour” for the community, starting with just a handful of residences and ending with over 60 neighbors in attendance.
Kendall is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Norma Hutton; son, James Hutton; daughter, Christine Hutton; and sister, Patrice Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathy Vyfvinkel.
