Kathryn “Kathy” Byrnes Richardson of Plano, Texas passed away on October 4, 2022, at the age of 76. She was born on June 28, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Nita Byrnes. Kathy graduated from Western Kentucky University where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education. She spent twenty years as a second-grade teacher at Christie Elementary in Plano Independent School District before retiring. While at Christie she continued her education and graduated from the University of North Texas with a master’s degree in Elementary Education. Even after her retirement years you would still find her at Christie as a substitute teacher.
Kathy married Jim on November 21, 1970, in Crestwood, Kentucky who preceded her in death in 2019. Kathy was an avid boater and homemaker who loved to cook, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She also spent many years volunteering at Junior League of Plano, American Cancer Society, Plano Retired Teachers Association and PUSH Food Pantry. Many of the things her family will cherish was her ability to light up a room with her smile, the passion she had for life and her unconditional acts of kindness that she showed to friends and family.
Kathy is survived by her brothers Jimmy and wife Maggie Byrnes and Regan and Pat Byrnes all of Louisville, Kentucky, daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Matthew Michael of New Carlisle, Indiana, daughter and son-in-law, Jeni and Charlie Post of Wichita Falls, Texas; four granddaughters, Madison, Kayleigh, Rylee and Regan; and an extensive number of extended family members, colleagues, friends, neighbors and people she cared a great deal about.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2022, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
