Kathryn “Kay” Ann Waters went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2023, in Allen, TX at the age of 91. She was born to Philip and Rose (Monagle) Riley on November 10, 1931, in South Bend, IN.
Kay graduated from St. Joseph Academy in South Bend. She then went to the University of Indiana, Bloomington. After a brief period there, her father passed away and Kay went home to be with her mother. While attending Purdue University, Lafayette, IN, Jim Waters met Kay, the love of his life and they were married on August 24, 1957. They then spent two years in Iowa City, IA and one year at Ann Arbor, MI. Jim accepted a position at The National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD and they moved to Gaithersburg, MD in 1960. During the early years of their marriage they had four children, James L., Joseph, Philip, and Anne (Day).
In 1989, after nearly 30 years in MD, they moved to Harrisburg, NC and lived there for 16 years. They then moved to Allen, TX to be near their daughter Anne Day. Kay biked nearly every day and prayed for her four children, 14 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren and all their dogs.
Kay is survived by her husband Jim, her four children and spouses, Jim and Cindy, Joe and Sherry, Phil and Karin, and Anne and Dave. She is preceded in death by her parents Philip and Rose Riley, her sister Rose Marie Sheehan, her sister Maureen Bigelow, and her brother Phil Riley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 22 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1414 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, TX 75002. There will be a reception immediately following the funeral, to be held at the church until 4:00.
