Kathleen Louise Kostyszyn, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 77. She was born on November 25, 1947, in Brighton/, Massachusetts, to John William Harrington and Berta Louise (Hanken) Harrington. Kathy’s journey through life was marked by devotion to her family, a love for the ocean, and a passion for bringing joy to those around her.
Kathleen was a proud graduate of Saddle Brook High School in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. On August 3, 1968, she married the late Borys Kostyszyn, and together they enjoyed many happy years of marriage filled with cherished moments and unwavering support for one another.
A devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and wife, Kathy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, often boasting about their accomplishments and celebrating their milestones. She was a constant presence in their lives, offering love, encouragement, and wisdom. Kathy also had a natural talent for making a house a home and was known for her handywoman skills taught by her father and brothers, being incredibly handy earning her the nick name “Mom Vila!”
In addition to her deep commitment to family, Kathleen had a zest for life and enjoyed playing golf, boating, beaching, and rooting for her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. She also had a special place in her heart for art in particular calligraphy.
Kathleen’s warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, devotion, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Simpson and husband, Eric of Linden, Michigan, son, Eric Kostyszyn and wife, De-Anna of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Kelsey Simpson, Ethan Simpson, McKenna Kostyszyn, and Brody Kostyszyn; mother, Berta “Bunny” Harrington of Naples, Florida; brothers, Billy Harrington and wife, Sheila of Delaware, Ricky Harrington and wife, Patsy of South Carolina, and Tommy Harrington and wife, Sheryl of Pennsylvania; sisters, Karen Samay and husband, Sam of Florida and Bonnie Whipkey and husband, Sean of Georgia; 13 nieces and nephews, along with all of the other family members and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Boris Kostyszyn; son, Jason Kostyszyn; and father, John Harrington.
