Kathy Ann Sims of McKinney, Texas passed away March 3, 2017, at the age of 67. She was born October 10, 1949, to Emmett Marcus House and Helen Geraldine (Walton) House in Houston, Texas.
Kathy was a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She began her career as a teacher in 1971 and continued her commitment to education up until three weeks before her death. Kathy taught at Plano ISD, Ennis ISD, McKinney ISD, Bishop Lynch High School, Dallas ISD and most recently at The Einstein School in Plano, Texas. She was an active parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and caring for the altar linens. In her free time she would likely be found on the sidelines of her grandchildren’s sporting events cheering loudly. Kathy loved sewing and knitting, skills she learned from her mother and at any given moment was in the middle of four to five different projects.
She is survived by her children, Sean Sims, Andrew Rydzak, and Keri Garcia and husband Emilio, all of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Ashlyn Garcia, Aiden Garcia, Austin Garcia, and Addison Garcia; father, Marcus House and wife Betty of Houston, Texas; brother, Mark House and wife Sandy of Georgetown, Texas; nephew, Mark House Jr.; and niece, Laura Gail Mabon.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Geraldine House.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 110 Saint Gabriel Way, McKinney, Texas 75071. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A rosary is set for 7:00 p.m.
