Kathi Jo (Sowell) Baublits, 71, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 22, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, to Joseph Curtis and Doris Aileen (Presley) Sowell.
Kathi married the love of her life, Bob Eugene Baublits Jr., in Dallas, Texas on July 23, 1977. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and family. Their greatest blessing was raising three children, each of whom she cherished with all her heart.
Kathi graduated from W.T. White High School in Dallas before attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. During her school years, she was a cheerleader, a member of the drill team, and served as President of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She began her career as a teacher and educator before she chose to devote herself full-time to raising her family, where she devoted herself wholeheartedly to creating a loving home for her family.
Kathi gave her life to Christ at an early age, and her unwavering faith shaped every aspect of her life. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone she met feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and genuine compassion reflected Christ in the way she lived each day. Whether serving through Meals on Wheels, volunteering at orphanages, or traveling to Indonesia to minister to those in need, Kathi lived a life of selfless service. She never sought recognition for her generosity; helping others simply came naturally to her.
To her community, Kathi was a shining example of faith, grace, and compassion. To her friends, she was a trusted confidante whose wisdom, encouragement, and loyalty could always be counted on. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family, celebrating life’s milestones, and creating lasting memories with the people she loved most. Her warm smile, contagious laughter, generous heart, and unwavering strength touched countless lives. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Kathi is lovingly survived by her children, Bob Eugene “Trey” Baublits III; Kelly Jo Gates and her husband, Jesse; and Blake Emery Baublits and his wife, Jessica. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of Graham Gates, Presley Jo Gates, Emme June Gates, Marley Jo Baublits, and Charlie Baublits. She is also survived by many beloved extended family members and dear friends, all of whom were blessed by her love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Curtis and Doris Aileen (Presley) Sowell, and her brothers, Christopher Sowell and Charles Sowell.
Kathi’s life was a beautiful testament to unwavering faith, unconditional love, and selfless generosity. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed every day, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
