IN LOVING MEMORY

Katherine Icyphene Best

Jun 22 1912 - Dec 21 2003

Mrs. Katherine Icyphene Stauffer Best, passed away on December 21, 2003, in Paris, Texas. She was born June 22, 1912 in Logansport, Indiana to John and Josephine Strauffer. She graduated from University High in Ann Arbor, Michigan as Valedictorian. She married John A. Best on October 1, 1932 after 67 years of marriage John passed away on December 21, 1997. They lived most of their married life in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Margaret and Kathy had a wonderful childhood. Katherine was so fond of animals they always had a dog and cat. She was a blue bird and campfire girl’s leader, Red Cross volunteer, March of Dimes leader and a wonderful Mom. She loved her 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was so proud of all their accomplishments. She and Dad had a loving marriage, after Dad retired they moved to Carrollton, Texas to be near “the girls,” which was wonderful for us. They loved to travel to New York, England, Mexico, even went to Vail Colorado with 2 feet of snow and a van full of kids, and they were real troopers. The highlight of our summers was going to visit our grandma’s in Indiana, Rockfield and Delphi. Mom always gave us wonderful memories and she was always there for us. Her favorite quote was “Oh just keep it simple, don’t fuss!” She knew that the only real important things in life is “family.” She left that legacy for all of us. We will always love her and miss her. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret VanWagoner and husband, Hank and Kathy Laster and husband, James; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She loved us all! She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Forrest Stauffer and sister, Margaret Reed Gibbs. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel.
