IN LOVING MEMORY

Karen Ann Hedin Crockett

Jun 02 1951 - Dec 22 2020

Karen Ann Hedin Crockett of McKinney, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 22, 2020 at age of 69. She was born on June 2, 1951 to Jerrod and Margaret Hedin in Wabash, Indiana.

Karen is survived by her husband, Bob Crockett of McKinney, Texas; son, Aaron Crockett and his wife, Charlene of Houston, Texas; daughter, Amber Lyssy and her husband, Fred of Amherst, Virginia; 8 beloved grandchildren, Collin Crockett, Aidin Crockett, Kylan Lyssy, Marabelle Lyssey, Ava Crockett, Landon Lyssy, Saylar Lyssy, and Nico Lyssy; sisters, Diane Luera and husband, Ted of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Marcia Coleman Napa, California; sister-in-law, Blythe Hedin of Pensacola, Florida.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jay Hedin and Carl Hedin.

Even as a child she showed great determination. After a severe burn of her leg, the doctors wanted to amputate it but her mother wouldn't allow it. After a year in the Cleveland Burn clinic with an operation every morning and Hyperaric Oxygen Therapy in the afternoon for wound healing, she walked out of the hospital because her mom promised a new bike if she did.

Karen was an ardent servant of the LORD CHRIST and a true believer in Jesus from an early age. As a child she would get dressed up on Sunday morning and make her mother drop her off at church. She became a believer as a senior in high school. After graduating from Abilene Christian University, she devoted herself to helping others as a Special Education teacher, hearing impaired instructor, and any subject pre kindergarten through 9th. She served at two Christian schools and many public schools in Missouri and Texas. She furthered her education by obtaining three Master of Education degrees from Texas Womans University in Denton, Texas.

Karen’s first love was teaching. This was evident in the effort she put forth in the classroom. She took this further with a passion for educating herself in swimming/life guard instruction, sign language and deaf education. She was always a child advocate and would often be the person to help those students that needed the most assistance. She was broken-hearted when she had to quit teaching because of failing health in 2001. Her greatest role in life was as a mother and grandmother. She especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren. And, for many years, she organized annual Family Reunions for her large, extended family.
