Karen Sue Mowery

Jun 03 1939 - Sep 28 2022

Karen Sue Mowery of McKinney, Texas passed away September 28, 2022 at the age of 83.  She was born on June 3, 1939 to Harold and Lena Schwinn in Coffeyville, Kansas. She married Gary Mowery of Independence, Kansas on February 25, 1960. Karen graduated with distinction from San Diego State University with a degree in Home Economics, specializing in Food and Nutrition.  She became a Registered Dietitian and worked in hospitals in San Diego, California and Orlando, Florida.   Karen was a wonderful Navy wife as she and Gary traveled the country during Gary’s Naval Aviator career.  Whenever Gary got transferred, Karen gladly gave up her hospital career to go on to their next big adventure.

After retirement, they moved to McKinney, Texas in 2000 where Karen became active in leadership roles in the United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church in McKinney.  Other than being a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother (Nana) and great-grandmother, participating in the United Methodist Women’s Organization and her love of cooking were some of the most cherished and happy moments in Karen’s life.

Karen is survived by her husband, Gary; two daughters, Susan Mowery of McKinney, Texas and Sandra Clonch and husband Les of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren, Taylor Boles and husband, Ryan of Little Elm, Texas, Sarah Clonch of Dallas, Texas and Zachary Clonch of Plano, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Brooks Boles of Little Elm, Texas. And many other family members and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Harold Schwinn and her beloved grandmother, Hermine Schwinn.
