Karen Le Ann Hurtt of Lucas, Texas, passed away on May 3, 2026, at the age of 85.
She was born on August 1, 1940, in What Cheer, Iowa, to Adwin John and Helen Elizabeth (Bond) Kitzman.
Karen married Douglas Paul Hurtt on December 10, 1983, in Dallas, Texas. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Karen is survived by her husband, Doug Hurtt of Lucas, Texas; son, Ryan Poyner and wife, Jennifer of Fairview, Texas; daughter, Heather Thomas and husband, Jeff of Frisco, Texas; eight grandchildren: Hunter Poyner of Howe, Texas, Karsyn Poyner and fiancé, Brice of Allen, Texas, Falyn Brothers and fiancé, Jari of Pottsboro, Texas, Jase Poyner of Fairview, Texas, Wynter Poyner of Fairview, Texas, Jaxson Thomas of Frisco, Texas, Haven Thomas of Frisco, Texas and Grace Meentemeyer of Lucas, Texas; sister, Coreen Renner of Meza, Arizona; and brother, Ark Kitzman and wife, Barbara of Davenport, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Jennifer Meentemeyer.
Karen loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their activities. She also loved cooking, quilting, Iowa sports, the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark, British mystery shows, oldies music, travel, her grand-pets, and keeping tabs on all of her friends — especially her neighbors. She enjoyed playing Hand and Foot, working puzzles, playing games on her tablet, and Christmas and Easter gatherings. Karen also proudly served on the Lucas Planning and Zoning Commission for many years. She worked for Rockwell International as a Program Manager.
Above all, Karen never met a stranger and genuinely loved people.
