Karen Gutierrez, age 48, of McKinney, Texas, passed away December 30, 2016 after a courageous fight with cancer. Karen was born November 16, 1968, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Gerald William and Verna Louise (Honley) Anglin. She was the daughter of Baptist missionary parents and spent most of her youth between Mexico and Colombia helping in their missions. While attending LSU, Karen fell in love with the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. She spent the majority of her career with the Communities Foundation of Texas best known for North Texas Giving Day. All who knew her knew she loved to cook and take care of others. Karen loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Luis Gutierrez of McKinney, Texas; son, Christopher Basto of Shreveport, Louisiana; daughters, Ilse Chavira and husband, Oscar of Columbus, Indiana and Karen Gutierrez of Monterrey, Mexico; parents, Gerald and Louise Anglin of Shreveport; grandson, Sebastian Chavira; brother, Adam Anglin of Jamestown, Louisiana; and sisters, Rebeca Waxler of Conway, Arkansas and Christina Olsen of Ringgold, Louisiana.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas.
