Julius Alvin Chambers

Julius Alvin Chambers, age74, of Murphy, Texas, passed away on July 23, 2020.  Julius was born August 12, 1945 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Henry Chambers and Ruth (Tilley) Chambers.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963.  He married Bettie Johnson on August 3, 1968 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Julius was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Prior to graduating from Southern University, he was an apprentice with The Morning Newspaper, becoming the first African American to receive this honor of certification as a printer.  As his career advanced the move to Texas was imminent.  At that time, he begin and retired his career as Procurement Manager in the telecommunications industry.

Julius was a member of St. Marks Catholic church where he was an usher and served on various committees. He was a  member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Iota Iota Chapter in Plano, Texas; and Plano Community Forum. Special recognitions received from the President of Collin County Community College, and the Mayor of Plano, Texas.

Most of all, he had a love of life. Bowling, Music (gospel and jazz) and the Dallas Cowboys. Missed his calling as a comedian.  Always bringing joy and laughter.  The moments spent with family were unforgettable. Especially, the grandkids, who were the angels of his eyes.  

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Chambers of Murphy, Texas; daughter and his pride and joy, Tekoa (Sidney) Monzingo of Wylie, Texas; sons, Derrin Chambers (Michelle) of Grand Prairie, Texas; Audwin Chambers (Rose) of Allen, Texas; ten grandchildren, Alexxus Chambers, Arianna Chambers, Auldynn Chambers, Anthony Carlock, Ray Garza Jr., Kameryn Chambers, Julius Chambers, II, Reese Chambers, Ava Monzingo, Henry Monzingo; three grandkids that he took under his wings, MJ Harper, Malcom Harper, Makayla Harper;  three sisters, Audrey Bean of Pittsburg, California, Carolyn Stringfellow of Richmond, California and Constance Robinson of Richmond, California; two brothers, Donald Chambers of Richmond, California and Lloyd Chambers of San Jose, California; aunt, Frances Stewart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and a host of other family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Freddie Chambers and Henry Chambers.

In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of guests will be allowed to attend the Funeral Service.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2020 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, and will also be live streamed on the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Facebook page and a recorded video will be available following the funeral service on Julius’s obituary page.

However, when the maximum number of guests are reached, those who would like to honor Julius and show their support to his family may remain at the funeral home in your vehicle, where you can watch the live streamed service on your personal device (laptop, tablet or smartphone) or listen through a designated FM radio channel.

A “come and go” visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing.

A private final rite ceremony will be held at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
