Mrs. Julia Myrl “Jup” Berry Evans, 93, of McKinney, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 11, 2021 in McKinney, Texas. “Jup” was born to parents Myrtle Marie (Collins) and Claude Berry, Sr. in Henrietta, Texas on June 14, 1928. Along with older brothers Weldon and Claude Berry, Jr., their family made their home in McKinney, Texas when Jup was age 2.
After graduating E.S. Doty High School in 1945 and as a Texas College (Tyler, Texas) alumnus, Jup became a long-time educator. She enjoyed being an E. S. Doty Head Start Teacher and later retired in 1991 from North Texas Job Corps in McKinney, Texas as a Residential Advisor.
On June 19, 1948, Jup married the love of her life of 69 years, Leonard “Coach” Evans. Their faith was witnessed through their membership at St. James CME Church in McKinney. Their love of family and community was experienced through home-cooked meals and through the open hospitality of their home.
Together, their family was blessed with three children, Leonard Berry (Phyllis), Ralph (Connie), and Terrye. She adored her grandchildren, Philip Evans, Shannon Hickson, Julia Loera, Tiffany Loera, Rebecca Evans, Brittany Evans, Jerame Evans and Kiana Evans; great-grandchildren, Evan Allen, Dylan Hernandez, Andrew Loera, Rekiah Evans, Leonard “Lenny” Evans, Alana Evans, Eris Tolbert, Jaila Gilmore, James Craig IV, Miranda Evans, Brock Evans and Mario Evans. She also leaves beloved nieces and nephews, Phyllis Dickerson and Sandra Davion, Vincent Berry, Weldon Berry, Jr., Harold Berry and Andrew Berry II.; loving sister-in-law, Dr. Jessie Mae Berry; and a host of family and friends.
Jup was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband, Leonard “Coach” Evans; brothers, Attorney Weldon Berry and Rev. Claude Berry, Jr.; nieces, Sandra Berry and Patricia Davion; and nephew, Andrew Berry, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at First Baptist Church McKinney, 1615 W. Louisiana St., McKinney, Texas, 75069. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen.
