Judy Gay (Roy) Cohick, 81, of Plano, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Village of the Park Stonebridge Ranch, McKinney, Texas.
Judy was born on March 26, 1944, in Phoenix, Arizona, to E.L. Roy and Iona Faye Landrum. A graduate of Burkburnett High School and Texas Tech University, where she earned a degree in mathematics, she later served in the U.S. Air Force and attained the rank of Major in the Air Weather Service.
While serving, she met the love of her life, Colonel Mikel Cohick. They were married July 22, 1969, in Maidenhead, England – the morning after the first moon landing. Together they moved with the Air Force to England, Germany (where they welcomed their only daughter, Karen Elizabeth), Kansas, California, Illinois, and finally Colorado Springs where Mikel formally retired from active duty.
After military life, they settled first in Denton, Texas, and later in Plano, Texas, where they lived for more than 30 years.
Judy spent her time volunteering, sewing, playing the organ, baking with her daughter, attending concerts and performances, and traveling the world with her husband. She also created a successful tax perpetration business, helping loyal clients each year.
She was thoughtful and caring, known for welcoming everyone during the holidays and offering a warm home – and plenty of snacks – to her daughter’s friends.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Mikel; her daughter, Karen Gogerty and husband Jeffrey of Richardson, Texas; her grandson, Reed Gogerty; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Faye; her stepmother, Kathy Roy; and her sister, Barbara Maples and husband Freddie.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas.
