Dr. Juan Fidel Viola, M.D., died November 9, 2020, at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas. Born in Batanes, Philippines on November 24, 1939, he studied business in order to help his parents run their business before shifting into medicine at the Far Eastern University, graduating with his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1971. He continued his training in the Philippines in General Practice. He married Helen DeGuzman in 1973 and then Dr. and Mrs. Viola moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where Dr. Viola completed additional training in General Practice and General Surgery where their first daughter, Mariquit, was born. Then they moved to Texas where their other children, Mark, Lawrence, Loree, and Paul were born, after a friend of Mrs. Viola persuaded the doctor to help reopen a hospital in a small town east of Abilene. Later Dr. Viola worked at the Shamrock General Hospital and Clinic from 2006 full time until going into partial retirement in 2019.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Helen Viola; their children, Mariquit, Mark, Lawrence, and Paul, and Loree and her husband Derek Luebke, and grandchildren Rachel, Alexis, and Ian.
Family and friends are invited to a “come and go” Visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Sunday, December 6, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8000 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Monday, December 7, 2020 beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033.
