Joyce Sims Chapman

Joyce Sims Chapman was born January 22, 1929 in Farmersville, Texas to Clarence M. Sims and Dorothy D. Marshall Sims.  She passed away on July 7, 2016 in Farmersville, Texas.  She married Jackie Leon Chapman on March 31, 1945 in McKinney, Texas.  Joyce was raised in Farmersville and attended school there.  She and Jack lived in the area until moving to Prosper in 1955.  After Jack retired, they moved back to the family farm on Hwy. 78, south of Farmersville.  She was a lifelong homemaker.

She had great talents for crocheting, tooling leather and sewing.  Joyce had a large collection of dolls.  For many years Joyce ran “Santa’s Workshop” for local needy children at Christmas.  She donated her time to the schools in Prosper, teaching arts and crafts to the students.  She and Jack spent many years doing trail rides and were charter members of the Collin County Paint Horse Association.  They held many Sims Family and Chapman Family reunions on their farm.  Joyce and Jack loved to dance and could be found dancing at local VFW’s on most Saturday nights.  Jack and Joyce provided a safe haven for their sons growing up in Prosper.  Papa Jack and Grannie Joyce delighted in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by; sons, Jackie L. Chapman and Joanie of Plano, Texas and Donnie W. Chapman and Karen of Runaway Bay, Texas; six grandchildren, Julie Cullen of Little Rock, Ark., Clay Chapman of Frisco, Texas, Nate Chapman of Frisco, Texas, James L. Chapman of Iloilo City, Philippines, Vicki Platt of Houston and Stephen Platt of  Chicago; eight great-grandchildren; Katie, Connor and Quinn Cullen; Sierra and Taylor Chapman; Ryleigh Chapman and Liam and Torin Chapman; three sisters; Louise Browning, Patsy Ragsdale and Dorothy Fay Neece and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by; her parents; her husband Jack; two brothers; Raymond Sims and Bobby Sims and three sisters; Betty Jo Sims, Billie Jean Rushing and Mary Ellen Banks.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Hurst’s Fielder Baker in Farmersville, Texas.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m.  with Rev. Ron Brown officiating.  The eulogy will be given by Julie Chapman Cullen.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Climax, Texas.  Pallbearers are Clay Chapman, Nate Chapman, Kelly Linck, Connor Cullen, Bobby Sims and Jeff Ragsdale. 

In lieu of flowers, please donate to: Stand United (WFAA or Tom Thumb) for the Assist the Officer Charity as Donnie is a retired Dallas Policeman and both Clay and Nate Chapman are current Dallas Policemen.
