IN LOVING MEMORY

Joyce Elizabeth Pruitt

Jan 18 1937 - Feb 11 2019

Our dear Mother, Joyce Elizabeth Dorland Pruitt, 82, went home to her Lord on February 11, 2019, after a short illness surrounded by family.  She was born on January 18, 1937 to Dorothy Mary (Johnson) Dorland and George Arthur Dorland in Gary, Indiana.   An athlete in school, she was a June of 1956 graduate of Pennsbury High School in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Joyce had fun dancing on American Bandstand in the 50s.  She married Frank John Moreland and to this union three children were born.  In 1966, the family moved to Plano, Texas.  Joyce enjoyed working at dinner theaters in the late 60s to early 70s and met many celebrities who became good friends.  She later worked at the Medical Center of Plano for over 19 years.  In 1988, Joyce married the love of her life, James Pruitt, an airplane mechanic, who loved to go on fishing trips with her.  He waits for her at the gate of Heaven.

She was very active in giving back to her community.  Joyce was a passionate gardener and was a member of the Plano Garden Club for over forty years. She created and maintained a fine garden and greenhouse at her home along with the gardens of the Cross Bend Christian Church, where she was a devoted member for 38 years.  Joyce was a prolific blanketeer for Project Linus and the Binky Patrol, knitting and crocheting snuggly blankets and hats for children with cancer and burial blankets for babies at Parkland Hospital along with several other charity needlecraft projects.  She also did incredibly beautiful counted cross stitch pieces which grace the homes of lucky friends and family.  Joyce had a big heart and a great sense of humor.  A smiling presence with a bright personality, She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family who knew her as the life of the party.

Joyce is survived by her children, Deborah Lynn Dorland, of Richwood, West Virginia, Jeffery Alan Moreland of Huntsville, Texas and Douglas Arthur Moreland of Tyler, Texas; sister, Janice Lynn Duckett of Levittown, Pennsylvania; brother, Gerald Arthur Dorland of New Hope, Pennsylvania; grandchildren; Heidi Suniti Lynn Montague and husband, Ben of Los Angeles California, Jeremy Edward Moreland Koling of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jessica Elaine Lopez and husband, Ricky of Tyler, Texas, Kris Allen Moreland and wife, Sarina of Tyler Texas; and great-grandchildren, Mason Blake and Sadie Elizabeth Moreland, both of Tyler, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Pruitt; parents, George and Dorothy Dorland; brother-in-law, Harry Duckett; granddaughter, Sarah Denise Moreland and first husband, Frank John Moreland.

A funeral service will be held at    2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Crossbend Christian Church, 901 Cross Bend Road, Plano, Texas 75023. A covered dish wake will immediately follow the service. The family will receive friends during a visitation Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.

Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
