Joyce Elizabeth Kincaid

Joyce Elizabeth Tolleson Kincaid was born on July 12, 1924, in Emhouse, Navarro Co., Texas to Virgil Clyde Tolleson and Myrtle Allene Ferguson.  At the age of five, her grandfather, William Franklin Tolleson Sr., moved the family first to Frisco and finally settling in Prosper on the Denton-Collin County line, West of Prosper.  They were a cotton farming family. 

Joyce graduated from Prosper High School in 1942.  With WWII going on she went to work for North America Aviation in Grand Prairie where she would meet her future husband, John Vernon Kincaid Jr., who was training as a Naval Cadet at Grand Prairie Naval Air Solution.  Joyce and John were married 5th November 1944 in South Mills, Camden Co., North Carolina, days before John was to ship out to the North Atlantic Theater for sea duty.  After the war, Joyce and John moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University on the GI Bill.  Helping her husband obtain his degree they started the odyssey of life in the oil field.  Their son, John III, was born in the West Texas town of Odessa and their youngest, Gary, born in the South Louisiana City of New Orleans.  After 11 years there the family moved back to Joyce’s home town of Prosper in 1968.  After getting her two rambunctious boys thru high school, she ran for and was elected Prosper’s First City Council Woman.  Joyce went back to school to get her nursing home administration license and met her best friend, Norma Sessom.  They were together several decades operating nursing home and Collin Co ‘Meals on Wheels’ in McKinney.  Joyce retired from the ‘Committee on Aging’, ending many years of service to the elderly. 

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, John Jr., oldest son, John Vernon Kincaid III, a brother, Virgil Dan Tolleson, a niece, Cynthia Tolleson Cockrell, and three nephews, Grady Bob Rollins Jr., Chris Tolleson and Austin Flint Anderson III.  Also, preceding Joyce in death is a sister-in-law, Mary Dodd Kincaid Anderson, and her husband, Austin Flint Anderson Jr.. 

Joyce is survived by youngest son, Gary Stephen Kincaid, and John III’s wife, Nita Jane Perry Kincaid Russel; four grandchildren, Jessica Marie Jatzek (Rich), Heather Elizabeth Kincaid (Ryan), Jody Michelle Kincaid, and Jeremy Marcus Kincaid; three great-grandchildren, Seth Douglas Sloan, Sara Elizabeth Sloan and Sadie Marie Sloan; sister, Francis Gail Rollins (Grady Bob Rollins Sr.), and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stone Tolleson; several nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Tuesday evening, November 28, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, beginning at 10:00 AM with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating.  Interment will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Prosper.
