Joy Sue (Suzy) Stephens

Joy Sue Stephens of Plano, Texas passed away March 12, 2025. She was born to Viola Grace and L.A. (Lonnie) Sears on December 6, 1943 in Seattle, Washington. After WWII, she moved to Texas with her parents and lived in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area before moving to Dallas. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and then graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in sociology and education.

Joy Sue married Rex (Pete) A. Stephens, II on June 18, 1966 in Dallas, Texas. She met her husband of 58 years on a blind date. Joy Sue was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and educator. She was a director of several Montessori schools. She was known for her infectious smile. She enjoyed the holidays and especially Christmas. She did a wonderful display in their home at Christmas and entertained at several parties in their home.

Joy Sue and Pete enjoyed seeing the world after retirement by taking cruises to the Caribbean, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Finland, England, Alaska, Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands, The Panama Canal, Alaska, Canada, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Suez Canal, Egypt, Jordan, and Dubai.

Joy Sue is survived by her husband, Pete Stephens of Plano, Texas; daughter, Kimberley Annette Stephens and grandson, Austin Robert Stephens; son, Benton Todd Stephens, wife, Stacy Stephens, and grandson, Slade Stephens; brother, Mark Sears and niece and nephew, Catherine and Cale Sears, and brother, Lonnie Sears and wife, Linda Sears, and niece and nephew Shannon and Mike Sears.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, younger brother, Jack Sears, as well as her youngest son, Jeffrey “Kyle” Stephens.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/joy-sue-suzy-stephens. Interment will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park following the service.

The family will receive guests for a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
