IN LOVING MEMORY

Joy Nell Teague

May 22 1928 - Feb 10 2018

“Here is a story of love
In a small Texas town
Of one Grady Teague
And His Joy he found.
She’s as pretty as a picture
In her polka dotted dress.
He is a most handsome young man
All true girls would confess.
She looked back at him
He looked back at her
From that moment on
Love was the Word.
I will love you in sickness
I will love you in health
I will love you were the words
That express the way they both felt.
Our Lord brought them together
And no man tore apart
The love Grady had
For Miss Joy’s heart.

Joy Nell Horton Teague was born in Leonard, Texas May 22, 1928 to Jesse Roy Horton and Grattis Duncan Horton. She graduated from Leonard High School in 1945. In 1948, while working as a teller for the Leonard Bank, Joy met and married William Grady Teague. They moved to Commerce, Texas where Grady pursued and graduated with a Masters in Education. Grady taught school as an agriculture teacher in several small Texas towns. Later he went to work for the Famers Home Administration until his retirement in 1985. Upon his retirement, Grady and Joy moved back to their home town, Leonard, Texas. Grady, never one to sit still, started a small construction company, Teague Construction. Grady built over 50 plus homes in and around the Leonard Area. Joy pursued her passion as a child care provider. She touched the lives of many young children adopting several as her own. Joy loved to read, garden, cook and write. She had several pen pals all over the United States. Joy possessed a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She taught her family many important lessons including the need to love family, to love one another more than self, to love your enemies and to get down on your knees and ask for God’s forgiveness. February 10, 2018 is and ever will be a day of celebration for Joy because that is the day that she moved out of her earthly body and went home to be with her Lord.
Joy is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws: Sherry and Jeff Price of Kerrville, Texas and Kristi and John Butler of Leonard; her sister and brother-in-law: Barbara and John Holder; her grandchildren: Kristi Brooke Butler and Alex Butler, both of Leonard, Texas, Stefani Binnicker of San Antonio, Texas and Cheyenne Clark Gallion of Plano, Texas; her great grandchildren: Austin Carroll of Brownwood, Texas, Rebekah Joy Carroll of Junction, Texas and Hailey Elizabeth Carroll of San Antonio.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joy was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolin Joy Teague, a son, William Edwin Teague, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mervin and Mary Horton.

There will be no public Memorial Service but there will be a private family memorial service for Joy on her birthday in May. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
