IN LOVING MEMORY

Josephine Buickerood

Oct 03 1938 - May 07 2021

Jo left this earth of May 7, 2021 to join her beloved parents, Ira and Annie Galloway in Heaven.  Jo had a full life as a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born in Athens, Ohio, October 1938, Jo’s early years were spent with academics and her love of piano and singing.

Jo served the country alongside her husband, Rich, for 26 years in the USAF, beautifully playing the key “volunteer” role as commander’s wife multiple times. She loved the military and often said her husband was the best fighter pilot in the Air Force.

She was particularly fond of her time with the young officers and their wives in the 27th TASS at George AFB, Victorville, California, and with the student cadets in the AFROTC Detachment at the University of Texas at Austin. She was a wizard during many military moves, determining how to repurpose drapes, furniture, curtains, art, rugs, etc.

Jo was a devoted mom who dearly loved her three children, Sherry Packer of Seattle, Washington; Stacy Powell of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Kevin Buickerood of Terrell, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren fulfilled her life. Jo also loved her cats, and as a “cat mother” would talk to them, and amazingly, they would answer her back or do what she had asked them to do.

Rich and Jo had a lifelong sense of adventure, traveling to multiple continents, with a cruise on the rivers of Europe and multiple photo safari trips to Africa among the highlights of her life. People would often comment that when you saw this couple, they were always holding hands.  In public, and around strangers, Jo tended to be quiet, but among friends and family she was not quiet. In fact, on her many photo safaris, Jo was generally the social director of the group.

Jo volunteered over the years for the Red Cross, Dallas Zoo, Girl Scouts, and the DeSoto Parks Commission.

A “come and go” visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing.

Josephine will be interred at Dallas Forth Worth National Cemetery.
