IN LOVING MEMORY

Joseph David Lowe

Dec 09 1947 - Feb 17 2020

Joseph David "Joey" Lowe was born on December 9, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to T.D. and Leslie Jo Lowe. He departed this world February 17, 2020 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 72.

Joey grew up in Tyler, Texas and was a proud 1966 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. He was a star on the basketball court and due to his happy personality, he was chosen as class favorite. Joey never missed a class reunion and considered his classmates part of his family. He continued his education at Tyler Junior College and El Centro in Dallas.

In October of 1970, he met the love of his life and best friend, Vicki Jo Robertson. The couple was married on October 23, 1971. They were blessed with two children, Laurel Ashlee and Kevin Bryce. Joey doted on his children and always wanted the best for them. He had been Ashlee’s little league softball coach for many years and when she traded in her glove for pom-poms he cheered for the cheerleaders! He even accompanied her cheerleading squad to their national competition and made such fun memories that they still giggle about to this day.

Joey’s love of sports and his positive attitude were the perfect combination for the game of golf. He loved his golf buddies and was thrilled when his son Kevin could follow him to the course. He’d get a kick out of winning and rubbing it in but it was the day that Kevin beat him that made him most proud. He’d whisper loudly to anyone with ears, “Kevin is a much better golfer than I have ever been.”

In 1997, life got even better with the birth of his first grandchild, Niklaus Parker and completing the family circle in 2006, Miss Liberty Bryce came along. He was often found teaming up with his grandchildren (i.e. bribing them) to tell their Nana that “Pops is number 1!”

Joey loved life. It was his nature to tell a joke or pull a prank just to make somebody smile. If he joked with you, then you knew he was your friend. Joey was not one to sit around; he loved being with friends, going to dinner or even shopping with Vicki. He was also very tender hearted and often reached out to help others.

In 1973, Joey was brought into a family business, Robertson’s Hams, in Marietta, Oklahoma. He later became part owner. He proudly worked there for thirty years. After retiring, he became a Real Estate Sales Associate. He enjoyed serving clients in Oklahoma and later in South Carolina.

In 2014, Joey and Vicki decided to take a leap of faith and move to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. They had often vacationed in the area and loved the beauty and the history associated with South Carolina. It was hard to leave behind their Oklahoma home and friends, but if you’re a friend of Joey’s, you’re a friend for life. Many of them traveled to South Carolina just to see them. Vicki was concerned that they might not make friends in South Carolina but Joey was never worried. He was right! Some of their best friendships were formed there and still continue.

Joey is survived by his wife, Vicki of the home; daughter, Ashlee Lowe of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; son, Kevin Lowe and wife Amy; grandchildren, Nik and Liberty Lowe all of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Jim Braswell, Tom Marcom and wife, Dottie; sister, Jan Phillips; brother-in-law, Clay Robertson and wife, Suzanna; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Leslie Lowe; his in-laws, V.B. (Tup) and Wanda Robertson; and sisters-in-law, Judy Braswell and Betty Robertson.

A memorial service officiated by Dr. Thomas O. Brumett will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, 315 North Church Street, McKinney, TX 75069.
