Joseph "Joey" Lloyd Thompson

Joseph “Joey” Lloyd Thompson of Frisco, Texas passed away March 11, 2019, at the age of 68.  He was born October 13, 1950, to Marvin Thompson and Naomi (Whitten) Thompson. Joey was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a 1968 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage, Texas. He married Susan Ellen Spears on October 17, 1969 in Carthage.  Joey earned his Bachelor Degree in computer science from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and worked for Middle South Utilities. After moving to Garland, Texas he worked for Lone Star Gas and Cap Gemini where he retired in 2015.  In 1987, while living in Garland, he earned his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served as a Minister of Education at Lyons Road Baptist Church and Pastor at Living Hope Baptist Church until 2013.  Joey’s hobbies included restoring his 1985 Corvette and hosting his grandkids camp every summer.

He is survived by his spouse, Susan Spears Thompson of Frisco, Texas; daughters, Caroline Daggs and husband, Michael of Tuscola, Texas and Virginia “Ginny” Cherry and husband, Jason of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Lucas Daggs, Trent Cherry, Tate Cherry, and Lauren Daggs; sister, Vicki Williamson and husband, Tom of Humble, Texas; brother, Marvin Thompson, Jr. and wife Diane of Palestine, Texas; and sister-in-law, Sharon White and husband, Clinton, of Kingwood, Texas.

Joey was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Jonathan Thompson and parents, Marvin and Naomi Thompson.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Longstreet Cemetery in Longstreet, Louisiana. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
