IN LOVING MEMORY

J. Roland Bedard

Sep 09 1933 - Jan 10 2026

J. Roland Bedard, age 92, of Plano, Texas passed away on January 10, 2026, surrounded by family members. Roland was born September 9, 1933 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Geoffrey and Yvonne (Morin) Bedard. He married Madeleine L’Etoile Bedard on September 5, 1955 at St. Matthew’s Church in Central Falls, Rhode Island.

Roland was the first generation of his family to attend college, graduating from Bryant College, Providence, RI in 1960. He was a member of the Armed Forces serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956. Roland had a 30-year career with Mobil Oil Corporation, later ExxonMobil, culminating in 1994. He and his wife Madeleine raised their family in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia. They eventually retired to Spring Hill, Florida for 20 years before moving to Texas to be close to family.

Roland was a firm believer in the value of a strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to the greater good. He instilled those values in his 6 children, and later in his grandchildren. He was a gracious man, dedicated to his community and always ready to lend a hand. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts, youth sports, Junior Achievement, local governance, and his church.

Amid the chaos of raising six children, including five boys, Roland always found a way to have fun. Whether camping, playing cards with the family, golfing, or going on a Sunday drive, he was always ready to bring levity to any activity. Blessed with good looks, his exploits earned him the nickname Silver Fox as he aged.

Roland is survived by his daughter, Diane Reed (husband, Peter); four sons, Dennis Bedard, Jeffrey Bedard (wife, Karen), Gary Bedard (wife, Kathy), and David Bedard (wife, Sophia); one sister, Sister Therese Bedard; nineteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Madeleine; one son, Mark Bedard (wife, Bonnie); and one sister Rita Bedard.

A memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8000 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, Texas, 75033, on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
