Joseph Henry Sowa, age 96, of Frisco, Texas passed away on July 24, 2020. He was born on July 25, 1923 to Mary Jastrzemski and Albert Sowa in Chicago, Illinois. In 1950, Joseph married Marilyn B. Welter in Chicago, Illinois. Joseph served in the United States Army and worked for IBM in office equipment and computer repair.
Joe was a World War II veteran and served in Europe. He enjoyed celebrating with other WWII vets, and one of his favorite times was being part of the Tucson, AZ veterans’ Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC in 2013 at the age of 90.
He retired from IBM in 1985, and in 2001, moved from Chicago to Tucson AZ where he spent the next 18 years and made many friends. He remained active and loved the outdoors, enjoying swimming, working out in the gym, and walking every day up until his final weeks.
He was a devoted husband and father to his two sons and was a kind soul to everyone who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his son, Daniel Sowa and his partner, Evan Coleman of Frisco, Texas; and his sister, Theresa Niski of Niles, Illinois and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn B. Sowa; his son, David Sowa; and his parents, Albert and Mary Sowa.
Joseph will be laid to rest with his wife at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
