Joseph E. Jernigan, Jr.

Joseph Edward Jernigan, Jr., age 71, passed away October 25, 2021.  Joseph was born June 7, 1950, in North Carolina, to Joseph Edward and Catherine (Solomon) Jernigan, Sr.  He married Elizabeth Margaret Scheller on March 12, 1977 in Florida.  Joseph proudly served in the United States Air Force.  He graduated from Northeastern States University with a bachelor of science in social work.  Joseph was employed as a minister, financial advisor, counselor for a youth group home, and as a teacher.  He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer.  Joseph also loved to sing.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jernigan of Aubrey, Texas; children, Alicia Jernigan Smith of Prosper, Texas and son, Benjamin D. Jernigan and wife, Angela of Aubrey; grandchildren, Addyson E. Smith of Prosper, and Bryson D. Jernigan and Braydon D. Jernigan, both of Aubrey; sisters, Bonnie Dennis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeanette Pittman of Norfolk, Virginia, and Marion Dennis also of Philadelphia; and brothers, William Canne of Melbourne, Florida, Bernard Day of Norfolk, and Wendel Jernigan of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Old American Golf Club, 1000 Lebanon Road, The Colony, Texas, 75056.

The family will be gathering to share our memories and stories, to laugh and cry, and celebrate the most amazing human who has touched all of our lives. 

The Grill is providing food and a cash bar.  Please note the venue is partially outdoors.
