Johnny Ray Lewis of The Colony, Texas passed away September 11, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born on July 4, 1938 to Easter Ray and Florene (Hocutt) Lewis in Waurika, Oklahoma. Johnny graduated from McAllen High School where he played football. He joined the Airforce and served honorably for 4 years. Johnny worked 3rd shift at Boeing in Wichita while attending WSU. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University. After graduation he was a career salesman throughout his life, most notably working for H.J. Heinz, White Swan and ending his career with currier sales where he met his wife Shirley who was a client. Johnny was a devoted Cowboys and Texas Longhorn fan and while in Wichita, Kansas teamed up with his best friend George Payne to coach 5 Championship Football Teams.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Rick Lewis and wife, Joan; daughter, Cindy K. Marshall; grandchildren, Austin Lewis and wife, Paula, Will Lewis, Capri Marshall, and Casey Marshall; great grandchildren, Ellie, Ember, Lucy, Duke, Julia, and Jolene; and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Florene Lewis; siblings, Denny Lewis, and Vernette Holton.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
