IN LOVING MEMORY

Johnny Austin McGee

Mar 16 1941 - Oct 11 2023

Johnny Austin McGee passed away October 11, 2023 at the age of 82 in Allen, Texas. He was born March 16, 1941 in Newton, Mississippi to Moody and Vermelle McGee.

He attended Mississippi State University and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1963.  He moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to begin a lifelong career at Ethyl / Albermarle Corporation.  He married Annette “Tika” Bynum on September 6, 1963. They welcomed three daughters – Mendy, Kris and Kathy (otherwise known as J.Fred, Oscar and George). His life was busy with Girl Scouts, softball, and other activities that the girls were in.  All three girls attended LSU, so he was often teased that he should cheer for LSU as he had more money invested there than he did Miss State!  Johnny and Tika retired in December 1999, and in 2001 they gave up their LSU baseball season tickets and moved to a house in Waterwood on Lake Livingston in Huntsville, Texas. In December 2020, they moved again to Allen, Texas so they were no longer “in the woods.”

Along the way, Johnny became “PawPaw” to five “buddies”: Mallory, Alaina, Madeleine, Austin and Kaitlyn.  They were his biggest pride and joy.  He loved talking about all the things they said and did.

All who knew him knew that Johnny was a good husband, father and friend – an all-around good man.  He will be missed in a million little things as his family continues on as best they can.

He is survived by his wife, Tika McGee; daughter, Mendy Richard (Chard) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; daughter, Kris Galletti (Doug) of Allen, Texas; daughter, Kathy Thibodaux (Drake) of Beaumont, Texas; Sister, Norma Jo Davis and five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Austin, Madeleine, Alaina and Mallory.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glenn Otis McGee and Dale McGee; sisters, Nell Bennett and Doris McGee.

Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
