IN LOVING MEMORY

John Robert Spollin

Sep 04 1930 - Sep 27 2021

The last hand of dominos has been played, cheers for the Texas Longhorns shouted and chuckles over the daily comic strips have bubbled forth.

John decided 91 years was plenty and snuck off in the wee hours Monday to meet with God.  He was born a Texan to James Francis and Vera Hileman Spollin and grew up in San Antonio, Texas graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1948.

In his glory days, he proudly served in the United States Navy, was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin receiving his bachelor’s degree in Engineering and excelled in a long career as a civil engineer. An extraordinary father and handyman, there wasn’t a problem John couldn’t solve be it automotive, household or heart.  When chores were set aside, he happily settled into reading the latest suspense, historical or biographical book or enjoyed an evening of classic western movies.

His heartbroken family, eyes bright with tears of loss and laughter, include his wife, Ruth Spollin and daughter Morgan Michelle.  He is also survived by four children with his former wife, Carrie Davison, son, John Patrick; daughter, Sandra Simonds and husband, Donald; son, Robert Matthew; and daughter, Lisa Moore and husband, Roger; grandson, Blake Moore and wife Paulina; granddaughter, Hayley Moore, and a host of other loving family and friends.

John is preceded in death by his loving parents and step parents, James and Pearl Spollin and Vera and Carlos Noelke. An inurnment will take place at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on October 13, 2021.

While taps plays at dusk, John lies in peace with a life fully lived, leaving behind his love, wisdom, wit and memories chocked full of hilarity.

We miss you already and always!  Forever in our hearts and with deepest love, HOOK’EM !!

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
