John R. Moore of McKinney, Texas passed away on April 7, 2022, at the age of 91. He was born on May 14, 1930, to John Gay Moore and Gladys Modene (Pruett) Moore in Abilene, Texas. John was a graduate of Dallas Crozier Tech High School. He attended Baylor University and Missouri University. He married Janice Danielle (Tucker) Bruner on June 20, 1987, in Amarillo, Texas.
John had a longtime career as an independent Insurance Adjuster. After retirement, he helped build twenty Habitat for Humanity houses, delivered Meals on Wheels, and started McKinney Seniors Helping Seniors. John served in the Marine Reserves 1948-1950 and in the United States Navy (Korean War) 1950-1954. John was a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney and McKinney Kiwanis Club. He also served as past President for Dallas White Rock Rotary Club. John was awarded the 2010 Kiwanis Citizen of the Year and the 2012 McKinney Quality of Life award.
John is survived by his daughter, Modenia Whitaker and husband, Larry of Mesquite, Texas; sons, Stephen Moore of Rockwall, Texas, and Kyle Moore and wife, Donna of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; stepson, David Bruner and wife, Mary Ann of Auburn, Alabama; stepdaughter, Kay Williamson and husband, Wade of Lavon, Texas; and thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Janice Danielle Moore of McKinney, Texas; and son, John Robert Moore, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana Street, McKinney, Texas 75069. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. A private graveside service will be held prior to the service at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
