John Thomas Hunter was born April 29, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee to Thomas W. Hunter and Thelma Mitchell Hunter. He married Nita Daniels on August 12, 1966 in McKinney, Texas. He passed away peacefully on September 24, 2021 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 83.
John moved to West Texas with his mother when he was a young boy. He participated in Boy Scouts and FFA and played football and basketball in high school. He graduated from Eola School and attended Angelo State Junior College before attending North Texas State University where he studied Business and Marketing. He met and married the love of his life, Nita Daniels, while going to school in Denton. Together they raised two children, daughter, Debbie, and son, Michael. John started a long career in Insurance as a Casualty Underwriter for Hartford Insurance Group and would later work in underwriting for other agencies in the Dallas area as well as become a partner in his own agency. Near the end of his career, he joined his wife at Richardson Independent School District and worked as a supervisor in the district warehouse. He and his wife were fortunate to enjoy retirement for over 15 years and made a new home in Cedar Park to be near their family in Austin. He enjoyed family activities, celebrations and holidays, he coached soccer, baseball and basketball and was an avid spectator for all sports and events for his son and daughter and later his grandchildren. He loved a good family road trip that would include camping, fishing, swimming and golf and later enjoyed time down on the coast in Port Aransas with his family.
John is survived by his daughter, Debbie Hunter of McKinney and her family, Marty Albrecht and his two children, Avery and Sophie and by his son, Michael Hunter of Austin and his wife Amy and 4 grandchildren, Caden, Luke, Brody and Payton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita Hunter, parents, Thomas and Thelma Hunter, and a baby brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
