John D. Stevens of McKinney, Texas passed away on December 30, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born on February 14, 1935 to Walter Ross and Madge (Day) Stevens in Wichita Falls, Texas. John married Faye Yvonne Lowrey Parker on August 10, 1984 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Texas A&M and later North Texas University. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Marine Attack Squadron 121 flying an A-4 Skyhawk attack fighter jet in the Far East. Later Captain Stevens was deployed with Marine Attack Squadron 223 flying 54 missions in the Vietnam War earning a Purple Heart, among many other decorations. His next step was to become an International Airline Pilot until he retired.
John was an avid golfer and traveler and amongst the many places he and Faye travelled Germany was a favorite. His favorite activities, however, revolved around his grandchildren whom he adored. Whether the event was a little league or high school sport, dance recital, academic recognition, field trip, graduation, or wedding celebration, John was amongst the biggest supporters. John was a member of Christ Anglican Church of Plano.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Faye Stevens of McKinney, TX; daughters, Cathy Coleman and husband, Bill of Happy, TX, Brenda Barker and husband Ken of Brentwood, TN, Lori Collins and husband Gary of Temecula, CA and Debi Parker Ladd of McKinney, TX; 25 grandchildren, Michael and wife Laura, Christi and husband Alex, Faith and husband Kaylis, Grace and husband Thomas, Joy and husband Daniel, Samuel, Andrew, Melody and husband Joey, Danny, Rolando ,Chris, Kate, Izzie, Alex and wife Alee, Annabel and husband Scott, Anthony, and Alaina; 7 great-grandchildren; nephews, Rick and Steve Trafton; niece, Kay Harris; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Trafton of Amarillo.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2020 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
