John Wayne Johanson, 53, passed away on July 3, 2026, in Plano, Texas. His heart unexpectedly, but simply, stopped beating here and began beating with Jesus. John was born on November 24, 1972, in Burnet, Texas, to his loving parents, Kenneth Wayne Johanson and Penelope (Benton) Johanson.
John was raised in Marble Falls, Texas, where he made lifelong memories and graduated from Marble Falls High School with the Class of 1991. He later earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting from Texas State University, beginning a career that reflected his intelligence, strong work ethic, and dependable nature. After serving in several manufacturing accounting positions throughout his career, he found a professional home at TBarM and SkyRanch Camps, where he faithfully blended ministry and financial excellence. He took great pride in his work and was deeply respected by those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
On December 28, 1996, John married the love of his life, Amber Nicole Wied, in San Marcos, Texas. Together they shared nearly thirty years of love, laughter, and unwavering commitment as they built a beautiful life and raised their three beloved children, Hannah, Johnna, and Zachariah. Being a husband and father was the role he treasured most, and his family was always his greatest priority.
John believed in living life with purpose and gratitude. Whether he was enjoying a long run, playing a round of golf, taking on the challenge of a Swedish cold plunge, or preparing a meal to share with those he loved, he found joy in life's simple moments. He was an avid reader: always eager to learn something new. He was a lifelong basketball fan (Go Spurs!) and someone who inspired others through his commitment to health, discipline, and personal growth.
His greatest gift was the way he loved God and others. He was known for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, generous heart, and genuine kindness. He was the kind of person who made people feel welcome and offered encouragement and kindness without hesitation. He led by example through humility and faith.
A devoted follower of Christ, John was a faithful member of the Lord’s church. His faith shaped the way he lived each day; meeting people who practiced their faith in Jesus differently only inspired Him to further closeness with God and others. It guided him to love well, serve faithfully, and place others before himself.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he created with unlimited humor and laughter, the values he instilled, and the love he so freely gave will continue.
John is survived by his wife, Amber Johanson, of Plano, Texas; children, Hannah Johanson, Johnna Johanson, and Zachariah Johanson, all of Plano, Texas; mother, Penelope “Penny” Johanson of Marble Falls, Texas; brother, James Johanson of Pflugerville, Texas; sister, Shirley Osbourn and husband, Ruston of Marble Falls, Texas; and a host of family members and friends, who will miss him dearly and fondly cherish his memory.
John was preceded in death by his father, Ken Johanson, and infant nephew Robert Osbourn.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at The Branch Church-Vista Ridge Campus, 3601 Huffines Boulevard, Carrollton, Texas 75010. Following the funeral and reception at the church, there will be a committal service at Ridgeview West Memorial Park at 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033.
