John Macht, 87, of Frisco, Texas, went home to be with the Lord July 31, 2018, at 4:48 A.M. in Plano, Texas. He was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Teckla Boyko and John Macht. John has a sister, Mary, who still lives in Canada.
Growing up in this province, John spent his childhood fishing in the summers and hunting for rabbits in the winters. His family later moved to London, Ontario Canada, where he worked at his Uncle Joe’s restaurant, and where he became a gifted cook. John attended the University of Western Ontario and majored in Chemistry. He spent summers working for a construction company, La Batts Brewery, the university cafeteria and as a lab assistant. John met his wife, Mary, in his last year of college. They were married at St. Peters Cathedral in London Ontario, a year later in 1953. John and Mary had two daughters. In 1963, they moved to Akron, Ohio, where John continued to work as a chemist for Polysar. Next, they moved to Borger, Texas, where John became plant manager over JM Huber Carbon Black Plant.
September 9, 1970, John became a naturalized U.S. citizen, and maintained a dual citizenship in both the U.S. and Canada. In 1994, John and Mary moved to Amarillo. After losing the love of his life in 2011, John moved to Frisco in 2016 to be near his youngest daughter, Nancy. As a young boy, he was an active altar boy. Even into his adult life, John was active in his church as the lector in the service and singing in the choir. A few of his favorite hobbies were BINGO days and artwork. John was a gifted artist who spent his life practicing all mediums, but his favorite was water colors. His greatest passion, though, was to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which included 2 sets of twins.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Legacy at Willow Bend Rehab and the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Baylor Plano PCU South for their tender servant’s hearts and care.
John was preceded in death by twin infant siblings and his parents, John and Teckla Macht. He is survived by one sister, Mary of London, Ontario Canada; two daughters, Myra Sena and husband Joe of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Nancy Gassaway and husband Terry of Prosper, Texas; three grandchildren, Chad Gassaway and wife Morgan of McKinney, Texas, Courtney McCollum and husband Matt of Lewisville, Texas, and Kenzie Sena of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Audrey Kate, Leighton, Jackson and Sloane McCollum of Lewisville and Luca and Hudson Gassaway of McKinney, Texas.
