IN LOVING MEMORY

John Thomas Ivers

Dec 30 1947 - Nov 14 2021

Dr. John Thomas Ivers passed at the age of 73 on November 14, 2021, in Plano, Texas. John was born on December 30, 1947, to his parents, David Ivers and Mary Hogan in Meriden, Connecticut. He was their only son, sharing his childhood with his sister, Dianne.

John graduated in 1965 from The Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut.  He then continued his education, receiving his Bachelor of Science (1969) and Master of Science (1971) from the University of Vermont in Dairy Science and his PhD (1975) from Cornell University in Food Microbiology.

Dr. Ivers started work shortly after graduation at Frito-Lay North America, moving to Texas, and stayed there for his entire career, retiring in 2003.  John married the love of his life, Betty Jo (BJ) Williams in 1969. Together, they had one daughter, Andrea. John was always a stern, quiet man but he loved his family.  John loved spending time on the water, be it a pond, lake or ocean.  For much of their life together, BJ and John enjoyed buying and owning boats of different sizes.  John was also a world traveler getting close to his goal of seeing all seven continents before his death, most of the time with BJ at his side.

John was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Ivers, his sister Dianne Asplund, and his wife BJ Ivers. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Edwards and her husband, Tom, of Frisco, Texas as well as his beloved and only grandson, Jase Edwards.  If you would like to honor Dr. Ivers and his family, please consider an in memoriam donation to Cornell Food Science Graduate Support.
