Jack Braun, age 78, of Ocala, Florida, entered into eternal rest on October 21, 2009, in Plano, Texas, surrounded by his family. He was born April 17, 1931, in Teaneck, NJ, to Jack and Edna (Riker) Braun. Jack was a 1950 graduate of Gesu Catholic High School in Miami, Florida. He worked with Florida Power and Light, served as a City of Miami policeman, and retired from State Farm Insurance. Jack loved sports and was an avid University of Florida Gators fan. He was a long-time blood donor and volunteered at Hospice of Marion County. He is survived by his children Scott Thomas Braun of Marshall, NC; Cynthia Braun Griffin and husband Ed of Plano, TX; and John Milton Braun and wife Debbie of Alexander, NC; his grandchildren: Edwin L. Griffin, III, of Dallas, TX; Ashley Griffin Martin and husband Derek of Frisco, TX; and Caroline A. Griffin of Addison, TX; and his two great grandsons – Cole Griffin Martin and Beckett Reece Martin – who adored him and relished in his jokes and “monkey bites.” He is also survived by his best friend and beloved companion Barb Olsen of Ocala, FL, and other family members, poker buddies, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Mary Louise Zacharias Braun. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Children’s Medical Center, 1935 Medical District Drive, Dallas, TX, 75235, where his daughter is a registered nurse.
